For people who are doing something now to help others and save the Earth!
Protecting the Earth is the most critical thing we can do. Out here on the Great Plains, our ecological devastation mirrors our social devastation. By committing to hard work and service now, people can have vital, deep, rich lives again.
"Why the Great Plains?"
All of society's problems stem from a culture of separateness. Humans live largely separate from each other in set groups, separate from the interconnected imperative of the ecosystems we inhabit, separate from even our own bodies and health. This is particularly evident on the Great Plains. Out here in Flyover Country, in many ways we've already reached the brink of ecological collapse. So any work to recover is model and metaphor for people and bioregions everywhere that are now starting to face some of the same problems. If we have a history of sorrow and devastation, we can have a present and future of healing and renewal. The Great Plains offers a horizon-stretching opportunity for all of us to build a future of possibility, a promise of fertility, and honor the power of life still.
